Following the immensely popular Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms Marathons, 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne is proud to present a 12-hour 3MBS Mendelssohn Marathon, on Sunday 28 February between 9.30am and 9.30pm with lunch and dinner breaks. This event will be a highlight on the 2016 Melbourne musical calendar and a unique opportunity to engage deeply with a musical genius.

Across six sessions, Artistic Curator Chris Howlett has gathered 70 of Australia’s finest chamber and vocal musicians performing 25 of Felix Mendelssohn’s greatest masterpieces as well as works from his talented sister Fanny, including the legendary Octet, the lyrical Songs Without Words, a rare piano arrangement of the Hebrides Overture, the iconic Piano Trios, Piano Quartets, String Quartet, arias from Elijah and lieder, the String Symphony No 8, and much, much more.

It features a stellar lineup of some of Australia’s most beloved classical musicians and ensembles, including Sonya Lifschitz, Jenny Khafagi, Ian Munro, Zoe Knighton, Kristian Winther, Iona Tache, Monique Lapins, Kristian Chong, Beth Condon, William Hennessy, Joseph Beckitt, Jacqueline Porter, Leigh Harrold, Rachael Tobin, Chris Cartlidge, Chris Howlett, Sophie Rowell, Krishna Martin, Simon Cobcroft, Hoang Pham, Caroline Almonte, Timothy Young, Elyane Laussade, Alex Raineri, Stefan Cassomenos, Tristan Lee, Sutherland Trio, Firebird Trio, Arcadia Quintet, Henry Choo, Peter de Jager, a handpicked choir led by Michael Leighton Jones, a chamber orchestra of Melbourne’s finest musicians led by Howard Penny, members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s Australian Octet.

The performances will take place across six sessions, with 1-hour breaks for lunch and dinner and shorter breaks between sessions. Free Sunday parking is available at the rear of the Hawthorn Arts Centre.

Premium ticket holders receive access to the balcony seating, complimentary program, and post-performance refreshments with the artists in ‘Fingal’s Cave’, the VIP lounge.

Delicious Lunch or Dinner meal packs may also be pre-purchased with tickets for collection on the day at a cost of $18 each. Vegetarian and Gluten-free options are available and this will be confirmed with you directly after purchase.
